Meet the Panelists

Premier the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, is Bermuda’s youngest Premier. He is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Information Systems.


He was awarded The George Washington University Presidential Administrative Fellowship and received his Master’s of Science degree in Information Systems Development in 2003. Mr. Burt attained a Project Management Professional certification in 2009. He is also a licensed private pilot.


An entrepreneur, Premier Burt started GMD Consulting Limited, an IT consulting company focusing on project management. He served as President since its inception until 2016 when he stepped down upon being appointed Leader of the Opposition. Premier Burt co-founded HITCH Limited and was the lead developer for the award winning HITCH Mobile App enabling Bermuda residents to hail taxis.


In the past, Premier Burt has served on the Tourism Board, National Training Board, as a Director of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, and has been a Director of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.


Mr. Burt is also active in local and international public service and community organizations. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the Western Stars Sports Club, and the Devonshire Recreation Club.


Premier Burt and his wife Kristin have two children, Nia and Edward.

Karen E. Franks is an Author of a children’s book series, Abigail’s Dream Adventures. The books evoke literacy, diversity and dream building. Karen is also producing a TV animated series based on her book series with a distribution deal with Google Youtube Kids and other distribution and merchandising deals..

Before starting a writing business, Karen worked in marketing for Vancouver International Airport in Vancouver Canada. Karen spent several years in various positions in Human Resources, facilitating, and performance consulting in financial companies and Government in Bermuda.

After a successful career in the private sector, Karen now writes scripts and designs products and services for her own companies ADA Group Holdings Limited Bermuda and Dream Tales Inc, Toronto.

Karen enjoys showcasing her book series at speaking engagements in schools and community centres here and overseas in various Provinces in Canada.


Marico Thomas is a serial entrepreneur. He is son to Frederick W. and Clara L.L. Thomas who themselves were entrepreneurs. Marico was educated in Bermuda at West Pembroke, Warwick Academy and Bermuda College. His “real” education came from lessons learned working for and with his parents. His values and work ethic have been shaped through watching the relationship between his mother and father and continue to be formed by his life experiences.

Marico is well known at the restauranteur behind Four Star Pizza and Glaze Bakery, and most recently Burger Shack. He has also branched out as a partner in Bermuda Medical Services Group.

Nhuri is one photographer who isn’t afraid of pushing the creative boundaries. As the co-founder of Burnt House Productions, a Bermuda based advertising agency, Nhuri has become a frontrunner in the area of luxury lifestyle photography and film. Amazingly enough, he’s self-taught.

As he tells it, just a few short years ago, his life was on a radically different track in the corporate world. While working in the local banking industry, Nhuri had an epiphany one day – he should be doing more with his creative passions and natural talent for photography. He stepped away from his cubicle and vowed never to return to that type of working environment again.

These days he gets paid to showcase the best and brightest of Bermuda. His resume boasts clients such as the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Hamilton Princess and Beach Club and Goslings, to name a few.

Tulani Bulford is the Senior Partner of Portland Lane Capital. A self-professed serial entrepreneur, Tulani is an avid technologist in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, and Internet of Things (IOT). He is born and bred in Sandys parish and is a life-long entrepreneur having started his first business when he was 17 years old. The business was in the clothing industry.

Tulani is the Bermuda partner in Trident Solutions; a Partner in an EU based IOT; and a Partner in a Cyber Security company. He is also a Board member of a California-headquartered Artificial Intelligence company, as well as a partner in an East African Agriculture Tech Startup. Tulani is passionate about winning but also creating things, reading, learning and helping people. As a serial entrepreneur, he currently has limited spare time for anything outside the businesses he is creating.

Meet the Moderator

Neville is currently the Head of Corporate Banking, HSBC Bermuda, having held that position for a little over 2 years. Neville has years of experience in assisting businesses through accessing financing. Previously he was Head of Payments and Cash Management and before that he was VP of Strategy and Analytics.

In 2010 he got the opportunity to be an expatriate and rotated through HSBC Group’s North American Commercial Banking (CMB) Business Management Team in New York for 2 years which was an invaluable experience for him and his family.

Neville was one of the members on the SAGE Committee – Privatization and Outsource Committee. In a previous life he spent 5 years working for Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation before it became the BEDC culminating in the role of General Manager.

Neville holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Accounting from Andrews University and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Finance, General from Webster University.
